What green technologies are available for heating my home?
Heating water with solar panels, commonly known as solar thermal or solar hot water technology, solar thermal is the most common solar technology used in households across the UK.
The solar panels effectively take the place of a boiler for heating hot water, reducing the need for gas, electricity or oil to heat your water. A conventional boiler is still required with this green technolog to supply heating during the night or during periods of low solar radiation. The solar panels effectively gather heat from your rooftop, this energy is used to heat fluid circulating through the solar panels that feeds to a heat exchanger within a hot water cylinder in the home, that then provides hot water for your home.
Ground source heat pumps work by utilising the solar energy in the ground to provide all the heating and hot water your home requires, at low cost and with absolutely no emissions on-site or other adverse effects on the environment.
Air source heat pumps convert the free and sustainable latent energy that’s in the air all around us into heat, these systems deliver green, low-cost, energy-saving heating and hot water all year round.
The new Worcester Greensource range offers a choice of two systems: air to air or air to water, both producing significant savings compared with a conventional heating system.
Air to air heat pumps are an excellent choice where external space is limited as they require nothing more than an outside wall. This makes them ideal for a wide range of property types, particularly apartments and smaller homes. As an extra benefit, Greensource air to air heat pumps can also operate as an air cooler and purifier using Plasmacluster Ion-technology.
By converting the energy from the outside air into heat and transferring the heat to water so it can then be used with an existing style central heating system, Greensource air to water heat pumps are ideal for providing low cost heating throughout the year. This gives the advantage of connecting the heat pump to a new or existing wet system to provide the hot water for heating.
